EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a complex approach to psychotherapy which accelerates the treatment of a wide range of pathologies and self-esteem issues related both to upsetting past traumatic events and present life conditions.

This interactional, standardized approach has been empirically tested with patients having a wide range of presenting complaints including child abuse, rape, accidents, incest, combat experiences, and natural disasters.

Controlled studies conducted in clinical settings indicate that EMDR is capable of a rapid desensitization of traumatic memories, a reduction in intrusive thoughts and memories, a change in negative moods, and an improvement in sleep. This is heralded by departments of psychiatry in the country's top medical schools as the treatment of choice for the treatment of trauma related disorders, including PTSD.

The staff at Russian River Counselors has been trained in the use of EMDR. For more information about EMDR, you can go to EMDR's website by clicking
